Jogger finds human flesh on beach

MELBOURNE, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- A jogger found human flesh on an Australian beach Thursday a few miles from where the leg of a missing young woman was discovered, police said.

Tests must determine if the flesh is from Raechel Betts's body, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported. Betts was last seen Aug. 11 when she left her car in a Melbourne suburb where she was to meet someone for a shopping trip.

Her leg was found five days later at Newhaven Beach on Phillip Island. Another leg was seen in the water by passengers on a ferry.

The flesh was discovered on Ventnor Beach, also on Phillip Island.

Sandra Betts said she believes her daughter was killed and dismembered and that the remains were dumped from a boat.

"I think there has been a disposal at sea in some kind of craft," she said Thursday. "There will be people who will have seen something suspicious."

Betts, 27, was a teacher. Investigators have been trying to trace her movements.
