Man arrested in 'Pooh' bank robberies

CHICAGO, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A Chicago man has been arrested on suspicion of being the city's "Winnie the Pooh" bank robber, the FBI says.

Federal authorities say a tipster led them to Michael Veysada, 45, suspected of being the bandit who held up three Chicago-area banks while wearing a sweatshirt depicting the cartoon bear, the Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday.

FBI officials said Veysada was arrested after an informant reportedly recognized him from television reports following an Aug. 7 bank robbery in Park Ridge, Ill. The Tribune said Veysada, who already has two federal convictions for bank robberies, has so far been charged in the Aug. 12 robbery of an MB Financial Bank branch in Countryside, Ill.

The newspaper said Veysada once testified at the trial of a man accused of helping prison inmate Jeffrey Erickson shoot and kill a U.S. marshal and a security guard at the Dirksen Federal Building during a 1992 escape attempt.
