Man displays woes via upside-down flag

ROCKLAND, Mass., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A 51-year-old used car dealer in Rockland, Mass., said he chose to hang an upside-down U.S. flag at his dealership because of his ongoing struggles.

Rockland resident Kevin R. McGee said since he is facing financial troubles following a two-year divorce battle, he decided to hang a U.S. flag upside down outside his dealership to symbolize a call for help, The Boston Herald said Thursday.

"I need help," said McGee, who alleges he was falsely arrested five times during his successful attempt to retain custody of his son.

"I was a good-standing businessman, I donated to the community, and because I wouldn't go along to get along, I lost everything," he offered.

The Herald said the recent appearance of the upside-down U.S. flag at McGee's dealership does not violate any laws, but has already earned the ire of some local residents.

"You don't have a right to insult the rest of the country to make a statement," McGee's neighbor, Maureen O'Haire, said.

"For a person who is in business to be the cause of so much hardship -- when we fought for that flag and kids lost their lives for that flag -- is so ignorant," former Marine Angelo Triantaffelow told the Herald.
