Quake rattles Japanese island

TOKYO , June 5 (UPI) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 shook Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido Friday, weather officials reported.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the focus of the tremor was in the area off Tokachi, Xinhua, the official Chinese state news agency, said.

There were no early reports of casualties or damage to property and no tsunami warning was issued.
