Prosecutor allegedly hits pizza woman

MIAMI, June 2 (UPI) -- A Miami-Dade County prosecutor was suspended for allegedly striking a woman who was late delivering a pizza to his condo, police said.

Prosecutor David Ranck, who last year filed a whistle-blower lawsuit against his employer, was suspended without pay Monday after he was accused of striking the tardy deliverywoman during the weekend, The Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

Miami Beach police said officers Saturday found Ranck standing beside the car of pizza woman Yudisceus Rodriguez de Armas, who was locked inside "shaking and in tears."

The police report indicated when Rodriguez arrived to deliver a pizza, she called Ranck because she could not enter his gated condo building. She told police Ranck yelled at her from the balcony, then came downstairs, knocked off her Domino's visor then punched her in the arm, "leaving a red mark," the report said.

Ranck said he hit Rodriguez, but only after she struck him with her cell phone. When he stepped in front of her car, Ranch claimed, Rodriguez drove it toward him, tapping his thigh.

He was charged with misdemeanor battery and signed papers promising to appear in court, the Herald reported.

In a lawsuit filed last year, Ranck claimed his bosses unfairly suspended him for an Internet posting of an internal memo that detailed his concerns about a fatal police shooting.
