Arkansas police hunt for escaped killers

GRADY, Ark., May 31 (UPI) -- Arkansas authorities Sunday sought two convicted killers who fled a prison in Grady dressed in guard uniforms, state officials said.

Jeffrey Grinder, 32, and Calvin Adams, 39, escaped from the Cummins Unit, where they were serving sentences of life in prison without possibility of parole, the (Fayetteville) Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Sunday.

Surveillance cameras showed the duo leaving the unit Friday night dressed in uniforms similar to ones officially made at the prison for guards, said Dina Tyler, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections.

"We don't know for sure that's where the uniforms came from, but it's highly suspicious," Tyler said.

Grinder and Adams fled in a car that had been left for them outside the prison, she said.

Grinder was sentenced to life in prison in 2004 for killing a 77-year-old man. Adams was sentenced to life in prison in 1995 for kidnapping a man and the man's pregnant wife and then fatally shooting the man and injuring the wife, who walked more than a mile to find help after she was shot, police said.
