Larijani re-elected as Iranian speaker

TEHRAN, May 27 (UPI) -- Ali Larijani was elected as the speaker of the Iranian parliament, the Majlis, for a second term Wednesday, officials in Tehran said.

Larijani, the only candidate for the post, won the majority of votes in the 290-seat parliament, the official Iranian Republic News Agency reported.

The 52-year-old speaker represents the constituency of Qom in the Majlis. Prior to his election, he served in the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and in the Ministry of Post, Telegraph and Telephone as well as in the labor and social affairs ministry, IRNA said.
