Few clues in killing of Illinois family

COLUMBIA, Ill., May 7 (UPI) -- Police say they have few clues regarding the recent deaths of a woman in Columbia, Ill., and her two sons.

The Major Case Squad publicly admitted Wednesday investigators have made no progress regarding the deaths of Sheri Coleman and sons Garett, 11, and Gavin, 9, at the family's Columbia home, the St. Louis (Mo.) Post-Dispatch reported Thursday.

Jeff Connor, Major Case Squad deputy commander, said Coleman's husband, Christopher, told authorities his family was likely killed early Tuesday morning as he was exercising at St. Louis County gym.

An anonymous law enforcement source said the words, "I told you this would happen," were found painted on a wall in the family's home.

Neighbors of the family told the Post-Dispatch the family had been receiving threats in the mail prior to the killings. Details regarding the letters, the meaning of the painted message and the causes of death in the homicides were not reported.

"We are still asking the public's help if anybody saw or heard anything unusual in the Columbia area, or if anybody knows the Coleman family and feels they may have information important to this investigation," Connor said.
