Chinese slides kill 11, 15 missingj

BEIJING, April 27 (UPI) -- Unsafe quarry production and days of constant rain caused two landslides that killed at least 11 people in China, officials said Monday.

The slides struck in southwestern Yunnan province Sunday.

Fifteen people were reported missing and two others were were injured, China's state-run news agency Xinhua said.

A slide in Linfeng township resulted from unsafe quarry production and a slide in Zhazi township was caused by heavy rainfall during the past three or four days, said Tang Guoqian, chief publicist for Weixin County, which administers the two townships.
