Mom arrested after boy found dead in car

LYNNWOOD, Wash., April 8 (UPI) -- A Washington state woman whose 1-year-old son died in her car while she worked a shift at a nursing home could face a manslaughter charge, police said.

The woman was arrested Monday night, the Seattle Times reported. Lynnwood police said she was released pending additional investigation.

Investigators said that the woman, a 21-year-old Everett resident, left her son, Joshua Michael Delacruz, in the car for seven hours. She found him unresponsive when she returned to the car and brought him into the nursing home, where emergency workers were called, the newspaper said.

The Snohomish County coroner had not released a cause of death Wednesday.

The most common cause of death of young children left in cars is hyperthermia. The top temperature Monday was 69 degrees, but closed cars can become much hotter.
