San Fran science museum heads outdoors

SAN FRANCISCO, March 7 (UPI) -- San Francisco's Exploratorium is opening several outdoor exhibits, the first in the science museum's 40-year history.

The Exploratorium is planning permanent exhibits that showcase art and the environment, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

When completed March 13, there will be 20 exhibits from Aquatic Park to Fort Mason Center.

At the entrance to Fort Mason, "audio posts" will broadcast narrations to arriving cars on 90.1 FM, the newspaper said.

"We want these installations to let people experience the phenomena of nature directly and to help them understand their own connections to the natural world," said Paul Doherty, a former MIT physicist and now the museum's senior staff scientist.
