More mass graves found in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Bangladesh, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The scene of a mutiny by Bangladeshi border guards has revealed three more mass graves, raising the death toll to 77, military officials said Saturday.

The Bangladeshi Army found the grave sites in the border guards' compound in the capital of Dhaka -- the first mass grave, thought to hold the bodies of 58 officers slain by the Bangladesh Rifles mutineers, was found Friday, the Press Trust of India reported.

Among the 10 bodies retrieved Saturday morning was that of slain BDR chief Maj. Gen. Shakil Ahmed's wife Nazneen, officials told PTI.

About 200 suspected BDR mutineers have been arrested, taken into custody as they were trying to escape dressed in civilian clothes from the barracks, the BBC reported. The broadcaster said the mutiny was spontaneous, triggered by an argument over pay and conditions, although some officials say the revolt may have been planned.

Bangladesh Army chief General Moin Ahmed told Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Friday that his force remains loyal to the civilian government, the Indo Asian News Service reported.
