Possible doubt surfaces in murder case

LONDON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Sixteen years after a British man got life in prison for killing his pregnant wife, evidence casting possible doubt has surfaced, officials say.

Supposedly lost notes of police interviews indicate that Eddie Gilfoyle was at work when his 32-year-old wife, Paula, was hanged, the Times of London said.

The report says the notes picture a series of blunders, including destruction of evidence, withholding the notes and other information from the jury, and a questionable time of death.

Gilfoyle's attorney said he would make a new appeal to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.
