Six students injured in school bus crash

SUFFOLK, Va., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- A collision between a school bus and a passenger vehicle in Suffolk. Va., Wednesday sent six high school students to the hospital, an official says.

Suffolk city spokeswoman Debbie George said injuries to all of the students from the accident appear to be non-life-threatening, the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press reported.

Most of the injuries involve back and neck pain, George said. Four students were taken to a hospital in a bus, while two were transported in an ambulance.

The accident occurred as the school bus was taking nearly 34 students to Nansemond River High School. The bus appears to have struck the back of the passenger vehicle, causing significant damage to the smaller vehicle.

Bus driver William Blackwell, 39, faces a charge of following a vehicle too closely, the Daily Press reported.
