Blago brother's lawyer says no wrongdoing

NASHVILLE, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- An attorney for the brother of embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich says Robert Blagojevich of Nashville is innocent of any political wrongdoing.

Robert Blagojevich, a Tennessee real estate investor and chairman of the governor's campaign fundraising committee since August, has not been charged with any wrongdoing but has been identified on wiretaps of the Illinois governor's phone. FBI investigators allege he and his brother discuss raising donations from companies doing business with the state on the tapes, The Tennessean in Nashville reported Tuesday.

U.S. prosecutors allege Rod Blagojevich, among other alleged crimes, pressured possible contenders for the vacant Senate seat of U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to "buy" the seat with donations or other favors to him.

"Is (Robert Blagojevich) going to be charged? I have no idea," Michael Ettinger, a Chicago area attorney representing him, told the newspaper. "I believe he's innocent of any wrongdoing."

Ettinger said he hasn't heard the tapes that prosecutors made, but added, "From everything I've seen, (Robert Blagojevich) had nothing to do with the quid pro quo."
