More Greece riots after boy's funeral

ATHENS, Greece, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- More rioting broke out in Athens Tuesday after mourners held a funeral for a 15-year-old boy whose shooting death triggered the disturbances, witnesses say.

Greek television reported new outbreaks of rioting in Paleo Faliro, a southern Athens seaside suburb, after the funeral of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, 15, CNN reported.

Meanwhile, thousands of Greeks marched on the country's parliament Tuesday to express anger over Grigoropoulos' death and voice frustrations over the state of the economy, unemployment and allegations of corruption, the U.S. broadcaster said.

Riot police waded into crowds of youths who scuffled and threw rocks outside the parliament building.

Officials had been bracing for potential trouble at the funeral after a dozen police officers were injured in Monday's fighting, with 87 protesters arrested and another 176 people detained and released, The New York Times reported.

Rioting began Saturday after the teen was killed in what police said was a confrontation with a mob. Since then, the government has charged one police officer in the shooting and another as an accomplice.

Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis said people responsible for the death of Grigoropoulos would be punished and condemned the violence in the shooting's aftermath, the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported.
