There were seven people aboard the train at Miami International Airport Friday when the accident happened. Officials with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department told the newspaper it was the first such incident in 30 years of operation for the trains, which roll along automated tracks without conductors.

The Herald said plans have been floated to add a new automated people mover as part of the airport's extensive ongoing overhaul, including a future system to be built by Sumitomo of America that was originally planned to be completed by 2004.
