2 dead, 1 wounded in hospital shooting

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A man shot two former supervisors, one fatally, at the Anchorage-area hospital where they worked Wednesday before being killed by Alaska state troopers.

Joseph Marchetti, described as a recently fired employee, was shot during a standoff in the parking lot outside Central Peninsula Hospital, the Anchorage Daily News reported. Marchetti died in the hospital's emergency department, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Marchetti had entered the hospital shortly before 10 a.m. with a rifle and a handgun, shooting Mike Webb and Margaret Stroup. Webb died shortly before noon and Stroup was in surgery and in critical condition, the hospital spokeswoman said.

Marchetti had been discharged from his job recently, spokeswoman Bonnie Nichols said.

"I believe he got his last check yesterday," Nichols said. "It was extremely frightening. He was shooting up walls. People were in lockdown and very frightened."
