Siblings charged in brother's death

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A sister and brother in Minnesota have been charged with killing their brother and burning his body, Anoka County Sheriff's Lt. Paul Sommer said.

Elizabeth Hawes, 43, of Minneapolis, and Andrew Hawes, 36, of Robbinsdale, allegedly killed Edwin Hawes, 46, of Andover, said Sommer said.

Andrew Hawes' girlfriend, Kristina Dorniden, 29, of Cottage Grove, was arrested as an accomplice, Sommer said. He said the three were charged Monday with aiding and abetting second-degree murder, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Tuesday.

Authorities are investigating whether a feud over an inheritance led to Edwin Hawes' death.

Police found Hawes' body burning Thursday in a large pile at a farm in Westbrook owned by Andrew Hawes and Dorniden. When police asked Elizabeth Hawes about the fire, she allegedly said, "That's not my brother."

Hawes died from a chest wound, consistent with an arrow, and suffered trauma to the skull and brain, Sommer said.
