GAZA, Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Egyptian security forces have located eight missiles in the Sinai Peninsula that may have been part of a smuggling operation into Gaza, officials say.

Egyptian officials said the missile cache was made up of ground-to-ground and ground-to-air-missiles, but would not discuss exact details of the weapons, IsraelNationalNews.com said Friday.

The unidentified officials said the discovery of the missiles Thursday marked the most recent weapons cache discovery in the peninsula.

A similar cache containing grenades and anti-tank missiles was found last month in the central portion of the Middle Eastern peninsula, the officials said.

Both discoveries were part of an Egyptian security operation in the area intended on stopping all weapons smuggling into Gaza, IsraelNationalNews.com reported.

The Web site said to date, that operation has resulted in the seizure of 212 anti-tank missiles, 171 mortar shells and 29 explosives by Egyptian forces.
