Pilot escapes Russian fighter crash

CHITA, Russia, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- The Russian air force said the pilot of a MiG-29 Fulcrum fighter that crashed Friday in eastern Siberia managed to eject before the crash.

An air force information and public relations service chief said the crash occurred during a routine training flight in the Chita Region of Siberia andresulted in no casualties or ground damage, ITAR-TASS reported.

Meanwhile, an air force spokesman confirmed that until the cause of the crash can be determined, all MiG-29 jets have been grounded as a precaution.

RIA Novosti said Friday's crash marked the most recent incident involving the MiG-29 fighter. The Russian press agency said two of the Russian military jets crashed in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan this year and a pair of the jets collided in Russia's Rostov Region in 2007.
