ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Police say an Orlando, Fla., man has been charged with allegedly abandoning his 11-day-old son in a garbage bag.
William Edward Allen, 23, was arrested Monday and held without bond after the Sheriff's Office received a report of a man who "seemed out of it" holding a baby outside the Winn-Dixie on Goldenrod Road, The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Tuesday.
When deputies arrived, Allen allegedly fled with the infant into a wooded area and was arrested about an hour later without the baby, the Sentinel reported.
Allen allegedly said he could not remember where he put the baby, who deputies then found in the woods in a black plastic garbage bag, the Sentinel reported, noting the baby was hospitalized for observation.
The baby's mother told deputies Allen allegedly left with the baby after she and Allen had an argument, the Sentinel reported.
