MIAMI, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Nana, the latest named storm of the 2008 hurricane season, has formed over the eastern Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday.
At 5 p.m. EDT, the center of the storm was located about 925 miles west of Cape Verde Islands. Nana was moving toward the west-northwest at 7 mph, and the motion was expected to continue during the next two days.
Maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph with higher gusts, and the storm was expected to weaken during the next day or so, with Nana becoming a tropical depression Sunday night or Monday.
Forecasters also said Tropical Depression Odile degenerated to a remnant low Sunday. At midday Sunday, the center of Odile was located about 20 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and the system was moving toward the northwest at 3 mph with top sustained winds of 30 mph and was expected to weaken and dissipate over the next day or so.
Tropical Depression Norbert was dissipating over the mountains of northern Mexico early Sunday, the hurricane center said.
