Blasts near Shiite shrines in Iraq kill 3

BAGHDAD, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Separate overnight bombings near major shrines in Karbala killed at least three people and injured 15 others, the Iraqi Interior Ministry said Thursday.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombings in the holy Shiite city at the Iman Hussein and Iman Abbas mosques, CNN reported.

The first bomb, which was in a trash bag, detonated about 875 yards from the Imam Hussein shrine and about 218 yards from an Iraqi security forces checkpoint, the ministry official said. One woman was killed and 12 others were wounded.

The official told CNN the second bomb was in a car and detonated about an hour later about 547 yards from the Iman Abbas shrine, killed one and wounded three.
