EL PASO, Texas, July 21 (UPI) -- A U.S. soldier missing in Texas has turned up alive and her husband, who had been sought by authorities, has turned himself in, police said.
Clinton Lewis, 34, and his wife, Pfc. Jeneesa Lewis, 29, walked into the El Paso Police Central Regional Command Center Sunday evening, KFOX-TV in El Paso reported Monday.
Jeneesa Lewis arrived at the police station with several bandages on her body, the TV station reported. She telephoned her family in Tennessee to let them know she was well, and was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center for treatment after she finished talking to police.
She was reported missing Friday.
"She was hurt pretty bad and was going to the hospital. She said she needed stitches. She had two stab wounds, one on each leg. He had stabbed her with a steak-knife," said Tammy Skelton, the victim's sister in Tennessee.
Jeneesa Lewis, who is from Rogersville, Tenn., joined the Army in September. She was trying to make a life for herself and her three children, ages 9, 7 and 4, Skelton said.
"They've had issues for years," Skelton said of the couple. "She just wanted to get away from him, secure herself financially, and take care of her and her kids and have a nice life together. That's all she wanted."
