ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, June 5 (UPI) -- Eight Danish investigators arrived in Pakistan to join the inquiry into the bombing near the Danish embassy in Islamabad that killed six, sources said.

Reporting the arrival of the Danish team, Dawn newspaper quoted sources as saying it included four police officials and four foreign office officials.

Pakistan Federal Investigation Agency head Mirza Yasin, who is in charge of the investigation, did not confirm the arrival of the Danish visitors, the report said. He declined to disclose details on the investigation.

The car bomb blast Monday also damaged several nearby buildings and created a four-foot deep crater in the road.

A CNN report earlier said Danish intelligence officials pointed to al-Qaida or one of its offshoots for the blast, which injured 24 others.

Danish legations have been under threat since some Danish newspapers earlier this year republished a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed, deemed offensive to Islam.

A BBC report has said an Internet posting purportedly by al-Qaida in Afghanistan claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was to avenge the reprinting of the "blasphemous" cartoon.

The BBC report said the authenticity of the statement, which threatened more such attacks if Denmark does not apologize, could not be independently verified.
