JERUSALEM, June 5 (UPI) -- Hamas claims responsibility for killing an Israeli man and wounding four others when a mortar fired from Gaza hit a paint factory at Kibbutz Nir Oz.

The man killed was Amnon Rosenberg, 51, of a neighboring Kibbutz less than two miles from the border. He was the sixteenth victim to die from rockets and mortars fired from Iran-backed groups in Gaza since 2004, the Israel Project reported Thursday.

In retaliation, Israeli forces targeted a militant in southern Gaza, but Palestinian medical sources said the Israeli airstrike killed a 4-year-old girl, CNN reported.

A spokeswoman said the Israeli military was checking the report.
