Prison time sought for abusive passenger

MILWAUKEE, June 2 (UPI) -- U.S. transportation officials say they are seeking prison time for a New York man who allegedly trashed an airplane bathroom and abused an attendant.

The incident happened last fall on a SkyWest Airlines flight to Milwaukee, when John Santasieri, 58, allegedly became intoxicated and abusive, Transportation Security Administration officials told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. It reported Santasieri, a Staten Island garbage collector, faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

According to the complaint, Santasieri and eight other New York garbage collectors were on an Oct. 6 flight from Newark, N.J., to Milwaukee, to attend the Green Bay Packers-Chicago Bears game the next day. After the flight took off, Santasieri allegedly ignored a seat belt sign, went into the bathroom and urinated on the floor.

"From there his behavior deteriorated," Edward Rooney of the TSA told the newspaper, including grabbing an attendant's tray of cookies and refusing to let go, mashing a cookie into the attendant's hand and grabbing him from behind, holding him by the buttocks and legs.
