Iran gets Russian nuclear plant cargo

BUSHEHR, Iran, May 3 (UPI) -- Russian materials bound for Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant has made it into Iran after being held at the Azerbaijani-Iranian border, a spokesman said.

"The cargo is on its way to the Bushehr NPP after Azerbaijan received all documents required from the Russian side," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Al Hosseini said Saturday.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said Azerbaijan permitted the cargo to move forward to Iran after it was held at the border for more than a month.

Vehicles transporting heat insulators built by Russian contractor Atomstroyexport were halted at the border near the end of March, RIA Novosti reported Saturday.

"The shipment was registered in line with all accepted international practical regulations," Atomstroyexport said.

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said he assured Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Naser Hamidi Zare Tuesday the holdup was prompted by regulatory formalities, not politics.
