Murder suspect's statement inadmissible

SEATTLE, April 1 (UPI) -- The taped statement of a man accused of a 2006 shooting rampage at the Seattle Jewish Federation is inadmissible, a prosecutor acknowledges.

The Seattle Times reported Tuesday that Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Don Raz said about two-thirds of the 55-minute interview was obtained in violation of Naveed Haq's constitutional rights.

The newspaper reported that on the tape Haq, 32, can be heard requesting an attorney six times. The police violated state and federal law by not ceasing to question a suspect if the suspect requests counsel, Raz said.

"We would agree that a violation ... occurs," Raz was quoted as saying.

Haq, who lived in Tri-Cities, is accused of killing one woman and injuring five others at the Jewish center.
