Father shows 'how to kill' by stabbing cat

MUNCIE, Ind., March 14 (UPI) -- A Muncie, Ind., man is facing charges of animal cruelty and dependent neglect after his children said he stabbed the family cat to show them "how to kill."

The children, ages 7 and 11, whose grandparents have had custody of them since mid-February, were on a trip to visit their father when the alleged slaughter of the cat took place, the Press-Star (Muncie, Ind.,) reported.

The children's grandparents reportedly told police about the incident after the children informed them what happened.

The suspect had consumed alcohol and fallen asleep in his living room before waking up and telling his children he wanted to show them "how to kill," the police report said. He allegedly tried to convince the children to kill the cat.

The kids smeared ketchup on a knife and hid the cat to make it look like they killed it, but their father allegedly found it under a bed and stabbed it anyway, the Press-Star reported.
