MONTREAL, March 13 (UPI) -- A Quebec warehouse where three women were killed in a roof collapse was considered a crime scene Thursday, Canadian police said.
The 10-year-old flat-roofed warehouse caved-in just before 1 p.m. Wednesday in the town of Morin Heights, about 50 miles northwest of Montreal. Police were looking into claims in Le Journal de Montreal newspaper that company officials were warned of the danger by employees.
One woman was quoted as saying she told a supervisor she saw cracks in the roof and the cafeteria door wouldn't close properly before the collapse, CTV News reported.
It took rescuers using heavy equipment about four hours to find the bodies of the three victims, ages 46, 54 and 62, the report said.
About 40 other workers managed to escape during the collapse, which sparked an electrical fire that was quickly extinguished by firefighters, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp., reported.
Provincial police said they suspect a weekend snowfall of about 18 inches caused the roof collapse, the CBC said.
