CEDAR CITY, Utah, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Utah couple stranded in the frozen Utah wilderness for 12 days before being found were in good condition Thursday, doctors said.
Thomas Garner, 40 and his wife Tamitha, 38, were admitted to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, Utah, Wednesday after a snowplow driver on a remote side road spotted them, CNN reported.
The couple and their dog had set out on a photography trip Jan. 26 in their pickup truck but became stranded by heavy snow near the Utah-Nevada state line, the report said.
The pair spent the first nine days in the truck, surviving on groceries but, when those ran out, they cut out the truck's seat cushions and used them as snowshoes, Sheriff Mark Gower of Iron County, Utah, told CNN.
After three days of hiking over about 15 miles and huddling around campfires, the couple spotted the plow, the sheriff said.
Both were slightly dehydrated and frostbitten but were scheduled to be released from the hospital Thursday, doctors said.
