Suspected Norwegian pedophile arrested

BERGEN, Norway, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Police in the Norwegian city of Bergen have arrested a man they suspect is the noted pedophile known as the "Pocket Man."

Aftenposten said Saturday the unidentified suspect was arrested based on DNA analysis. Police believe he is the individual who has been assaulting young boys in the region for the past 30 years.

The "Pocket Man" earned the popularized moniker for his repeated acts of cutting holes in his pants pockets and asking young boys to help him remove an item from them.

Police have alleged that while most boys who accidentally touched the man's sex organ ran away, some of the young victims were forced to perform oral sex on the "Pocket Man."

Since the attacks were first reported in the 1970s, police suspect more than 300 boys have been victimized, with many not reporting the assaults.

Aftenposten said police eventually were led to their unnamed suspect thanks to recent DNA tests on evidence from a 1995 assault.
