WARSAW, Poland, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Poland's president and prime minister are still at odds over the date when Polish troops would be withdrawn from Iraq, a Cabinet minister said.
Polish Defense Minister Bogdan Klich said Monday the new government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Lech Kaczynski are likely to reach a compromise on the date to pull out some 1,000 troops from Iraq, Polish Radio said Monday.
Kaczynski has been opposing Tusk's plans to withdraw the troops by Oct. 31 and insisted the deployment of Polish soldiers in Iraq should be extended.
Poland dispatched its troops to Iraq in 2003 to support a U.S.-led military campaign.
Tusk, whose government was installed in mid-November, Saturday said he will file a motion to Kaczynski to terminate Polish troops' deployment in Iraq in October and expressed hope the head of state would not object it.
