Aussie PM wants action on climate change

SYDNEY, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd took a swipe Wednesday at the United States for its inaction on the issue of climate change.

Speaking at the U.N. climate change conference in Bali, Indonesia, Rudd called on developed nations to take a stronger role in addressing global warming, the Australian Broadcasting Corp. said.

"We need all developed nations within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol, and those outside, to embrace comparable efforts," Rudd said.

The United States is the only major industrial nation outside the Kyoto framework as it has not ratified the protocol on reducing greenhouse gas emissions -- blamed as the major cause of global warming.

Rudd told the Bali conference that "there is no 'Plan B.' There is no other planet any of us can escape to," the ABC said.
