Giuliani, Romney escalate attacks

CONCORD, N.H., Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani accused each other of poor leadership and a lack of ethics.

With New Hampshire's primary just six weeks away, Giuliani, a former mayor of New York, and Romney, a former governor of Massachusetts, sharply escalated their attacks Sunday on each other during campaign stops in the state, The Washington Post reported.

The two traded accusations about taxes, crime, immigration, abortion and ethical standards as Giuliani, who leads in national polls, predicted he can erode Romney's lead in New Hampshire's Jan. 8 primary, the Post reported.

"We think we can catch him and get ahead of him," Giuliani told the Post, with Romney saying Giuliani sounded worried about losing the Republican nomination.

Recent polls indicate Romney is leading New Hampshire's Republican race with Giuliani and U.S. Sen. John McCain, of Arizona, tied for second place, the Post reported.
