FBI: Accused tax manager liked Chanel

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- FBI agents say they found a treasure trove in the home of a District of Columbia tax manager accused of stealing millions from the government.

Harriette Walters, arrested in a predawn Nov. 7 raid, allegedly spent $1.4 million at Neiman Marcus on her district Office of Tax and Revenue salary of $81,000 a year, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

In the raid on her modest home, FBI agents said they seized 90 expensive purses, 47 of them made by Chanel, the famous French house of couture, the Post reported. The FBI, in an inventory filed Friday in federal court, said it also seized a Rolex watch, glassware by Steuben, a Faberge egg and a 2006 Mercedes, the Post reported.

Walters, 51, is accused of masterminding the biggest fraud ever perpetrated against the district government. Prosecutors said the loss could exceed $30 million, much of which has been spent or spirited away, the Post reported.
