NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- No injuries were reported after at least one explosive device was set off outside the Mexican consulate on New York's East Side early Friday.
Police bomb squad members found apparently homemade explosive devices around the consulate in the Murray Hill section of Midtown Manhattan, WNBC-TV reported. Early reports indicated fragments of a grenade were found near the building. The grenade apparently contained black powder.
WABC-TV, New York, reported two grenades may have been thrown at the building about 3:50 a.m. and residents said one exploded. Consulate workers found shattered glass and fragments when they reported for work around 9:25 a.m.
Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents and the FBI also were at the scene.
