Kosovo VOA reporter beaten by masked man

PRISTINA, Serbia, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A Serb reporter for Voice of America in Serbia’s mainly ethnic-Albanian Kosovo province was beaten by a masked man who apparently disliked her stories.

Vesna Bojicic, correspondent for VOA’s Serbian-language service, said the Serb-speaking man broke into her apartment in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo province, and beat her severely while condemning her coverage of the Kosovo situation, Serbia’s B92 Belgrade radio reported Thursday.

Bojicic said the man accused of her favoring the majority ethnic Albanians in her coverage.

Veton Elshani, spokesman for the Kosovo international police service, said they have not opened an investigation because Bojicic has not reported the assault.

Bojicic said she does not trust Kosovo institutions and will leave Kosovo because she has been living and working under threats and pressure from both Serbs and ethnic-Albanians.

She said she will seek political asylum, but not in the United States. Beyond that she offered no details of her plans.
