Jeweler: Diana planned to marry Fayed

LONDON, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- A Monte Carlo jeweler said he will testify Princess Diana selected an engagement ring from him to marry Dodi Fayed.

Alberto Repossi said Scotland Yard pressured him to deny the engagement after the princess and Fayed were killed a decade ago in a car crash in Paris, The Times of London reported Monday.

Repossi, who is to testify at an inquest of Diana's death in London, claimed Diana personally approved the $260,000 star-shaped diamond ring and Fayed planned to give it to her the night they died.

Fayed’s father, Mohamed Al Fayed, has claimed the couple were killed by British agents when it became known they were to announce their marriage and that the princess was pregnant, the Times reported.

“I am probably the only witness to the fact that Dodi and Princess Diana were going to get engaged," Repossi told the Times.

Repossi's latest comments contradict earlier statements about whether the ring was intended as an engagement ring.
