N. Korea agrees to disable reactor

SHENYANG, China, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- North Korea has agreed to disable its nuclear reactor in Yongbyon, it was reported Saturday.

The reactor was shut down this year in the first phase of nuclear disarmament negotiations and will be disabled in the second stage once the six countries involved in the talks work out the specifics, said U.S. nuclear envoy Christopher Hill.

"We need to have a common definition of disabling,” Hill said Friday, “and there are different ways you can define it.”

Hill met and negotiators from South and North Korea, Japan, China and Russia met in Shenyang, China, for two days of talks ending Friday, Kyodo reported.
