Five dead in Alaska plane crash

KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Five people died and four were injured in a float plane crash in southeastern Alaska.

The plane that went down Thursday night in trees about 200 yards from shore was owned by SeaWind Aviation, a Ketchikan, Alaska, company that offers sightseeing and bear-viewing flights, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

The survivors were flown by air ambulance to Seattle hospitals.

State Police spokeswoman Megan Peters said the cause of the crash was under investigation.

She told the Daily News "a definite weather change" including high winds struck the area at the time.
