N.Z. rugby tackle restrains violent man

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A former New Zealand rugby star used his old tackling skills when a fellow passenger on a plane to Wellington went berserk.

Ofisa "Junior" Tonu'u and another man held the passenger down until the plane landed, The Dominion Post reported.

"It was almost like breaking up a brawl at a rugby match," Tonu’u said.

The two men held the passenger down in his seat, bracing themselves, until the plane touched down.

Tonu’u played five test matches for the All Blacks in the late 1990s. He was on the plane from Auckland to Wellington for business meetings.

Police said the passenger who became violent had flown from Japan to New Zealand with his parents. He apparently had not taken his medication, causing the episode.
