Nigerians release kidnapped British girl

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria, July 9 (UPI) -- Kidnappers in the southern Nigerian city of Port Harcourt released a 3-year-old British girl unharmed after holding her for four days.

Police told CNN no ransom had been paid for Margaret Hill, the daughter of bar owner Mike Hill, a Briton, and his Nigerian wife, Oluchi Hill.

After the girl's release Sunday, the parents said their daughter had been given bread and water during her captivity and was fine except for numerous mosquito bites.

Her father told Sky News the girl was in "a bit of a trance when we first got her back."

The girl was abducted Thursday on her way to school when a car carrying five men blocked the car she was in and smashed the windows. The driver was stabbed several times as he attempted to guard the girl, AllAfrica.com reported.

Since late 2005, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has been attacking foreign oil company facilities and abducting foreign workers for ransom.
