LAS VEGAS, July 4 (UPI) -- Most of Southern Nevada, including Las Vegas, is likely to have "dangerously hot" weather conditions this week, the National Weather Service said.

Local weather service meteorologist Charlie Schlott told The Las Vegas Review-Journal the NWS prediction includes temperatures more than 112 degrees for both Wednesday and Thursday.

Weather.com said Las Vegas was sunny and the temperature was 110 degrees late Wednesday afternoon.

Schlott said with equally hot conditions predicted through Friday, residents should take precautions to prevent dehydration or other heat-related illnesses.

"We put this warning out especially for the elderly and people who are vulnerable to this. You have to use common sense when out and about in this heat," he said. "You can become dehydrated really quick before you know it."

Schlott recommended special attention be given to children and pets, who can suffer without air conditioning or within unprotected vehicles.
