TOKYO, June 23 (UPI) -- Northern Japan was shaken awake Saturday morning by a moderate earthquake that measured 5.1 on the Richter scale.
No damage or injuries were reported after the quake centered in Hokkaido prefecture rumbled through, police told the Mainichi Daily News.

No tsunami alerts were issued. The Japan Meteorological Agency pegged the event at a 3 on the country's earthquake intensity scale.
