Court fight over judge's porn heats up

DENVER, June 23 (UPI) -- A Denver judge is fighting back after a news conference in which details of pornography stored on a laptop he allegedly stole were discussed.

An attorney for District Judge Larry Manzanares blasted prosecutors for allegedly violating a gag order in the case by holding a news conference to release an 80-page affidavit about the X-rated computer files.

Manzaneres was charged last week with stealing a state-owned computer from the courthouse. The Rocky Mountain News said Saturday that investigators alleged the judge had stored "massive" amounts of porn on the machine and had tried to delete it all before turning it to over to police.

Attorney Gary Lozow told the newspaper the news conference detailing the lurid discovery had been held "to ensure maximum sensational press coverage." He filed a motion with the court contending his client's rights had been violated by the revelations and the alleged violation of the gag order.

A ruling on the motion will be issued by July 6, the newspaper said.
