Wisconsin chemical fire explosive

EAU CLAIRE, Wis., June 22 (UPI) -- Firefighters were waiting for a chemical fire at a Wisconsin plant to burn itself out Friday before trying to enter the site.

"It was just too dangerous for us to keep people in there," Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer told the Eau Claire (Wis.) Leader Telegram.

The fire started with a boiler explosion at Waste Research and Reclamation and winds whipped the flames into an explosive fire with dozens of fireballs and flames that shot 300 feet in the air, the newspaper reported.

"There were some huge explosions in there," Cramer told the Leader Telegram.
