Jewish group calls for Gaza reoccupation

SDEROT, Israel, May 25 (UPI) -- A group representing Jewish settlers on Friday said Israel should respond to Hamas rockets with a ground offensive and reoccupy the northern Gaza Strip.

"Israel must take its fate in its own hands. There is no other option but to launch a ground offensive in the northern Gaza Strip to reoccupy it," said a leaflet distributed by the Yesha Council in synagogues across Israel Friday, Ynetnews reported.

The Yesha Council represents Jewish settlers in Judea, Samaria and Gaza.

The Yesha Council leaflet said Israel should "clear the entire area" of Qassam manufacturers and said "they should be hit hard with the right maintenance for a long period of time."

Ynetnews reported that rockets hit southern Israel on Friday. No injuries were reported although there was a fire reported in a wheat field near Sderot.

Thursday night, Israeli airstrikes hit buildings used by Hamas in Gaza.

The Yesha Council pamphlet said the Second Jerusalem War proved that airstrikes alone wouldn't be successful.
